History
The Constitution of the United States of America protects "Life,
Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness". Over the course of history, many
systems of healing have benefited America's citizens.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy, from the Greek homios ("similar") and
pathos ("suffering" or "sickness") is a system of medicine
using natural substances- animal, vegetable, and mineral. The principal law
upon which homeopathy is based is the Law of Similars, or "Like cures
like". The Law of Similars states that a natural substance that can cause
symptoms in a healthy person can cure symptoms in a person who is ill. Homeopathic
treatments stimulate the body to heal itself. The homeopathic principle has
been noted as early as 10th century B.C. In the early 1800's, the German physician
Samuel Hahnemann established homeopathy as a scientific discipline.
Homeopathy arrived in North America as early as the 1830's and
began to establish practices and even medical schools. Homeopathic remedy
kits became popular among early pioneers for the westward trail into uncharted
territories. Homeopathic medicine has not only survived the advent of technology-based
modern medicine but gained greatly in popularity since the 1970's. Its efficacy
has received confirmation from rigorous scientific studies, some of them published
in leading mainstream medical journals. Its proponents have included J.D.
Rockefeller, Mahatma Gandhi and members of the British royal family. Homeopathic
medicine is included in the original Medicare legislation. Its remedies are
regulated by the FDA through the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia Convention of the
United States. More information about specific homeopathic remedies and pharmacies
is available on our Remedies page.
Anthroposophical Medicine
Based on the work of Ita Wegman, M.D. and Rudolf Steiner, Ph.D.,
Anthroposophical Medicine has grown to be a widely practiced holistic system
of healing in five continents. Its practice includes the use of herbal remedies
and homeopathic potencies as well as artistic therapies to address disturbances
or imbalances in body, soul and spirit. In that, it is a most comprehensive
framework. Also used are several forms of movement therapy, spiritually based
counseling and rhythmical massage. The use of conventional medical or surgical
treatment is not rejected in this approach but included where needed. Anthroposophical
Medicine, while relatively unknown in this country, enjoys official recognition
and legal protection in several European countries.
Orthomolecular Medicine
Orthomolecular medicine uses substances that occur naturally in the human body (in Greek, "ortho" means "right" or "correct"). These can be vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids or hormones in their natural form. The physician follows the path of nature to achieve health or attain a better state of health by supporting specific biochemical processes which have become weakened through illness.
Nutritional supplementation is often needed because many of our foods are highly processed and grown on polluted soils depleted of nutrients. This contributes to disease particularly when we eat hurriedly and are unable to devote much time to food preparation.
Dietary supplements are regulated under the DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act), enacted by Congress in 1994 in order to assure safety. For your convenience, we offer a selection of supplements from trusted manufacturers that we frequently recommend.
Bio-identical hormones are commonly used in orthomolecular medicine.
Unlike most pharmaceutical products, these hormones are identical
in molecular structure to the hormones naturally occurring in
the human body, and can be used to treat hormonal imbalances.
